Day 18-July19

This morning we ate breakfast for the last time in our Paris hotel...sad day. Actually, it will be kind of nice to eat something different for breakfast. Every day we have the same thing...granola with yogurt in it (cuz the milk is always warm and we don't trust it), rolls, croissants, and a piece of fruit. It's been pretty good I guess, it just gets old after a while. We had a bus pick us up and take us to the train station and then we took a eurostar to London. The ride was pretty short and pleasant...only 90 minutes, and they were plenty roomy. The people sitting next to us had flu masks on the whole time and that kinda freaked me out, but hopefully none of us get the flu! We got to ride through the chunnel and that was pretty cool. It's a huge tunnel that goes under the ocean for thirty-something miles. That was kinda crazy to think about. I love London already! It is SO nice to be able to understand what people are saying and not have to try to answer back in a language I don't even know. I wish I had a British accent though. I love just listening to people talk here and everyone is way attractive. haha. Our housing is way sweet. We're living in a student housing building in South Kensington.

It's a way nice neighborhood and they told us it's one of the most expensive places to live in the world. So...on that note, there are cameras everywhere and if you're noisy AT ALL on the streets late at night you will get a fine for thousands of pounds. You would think the place were staying in is way nice but it's pretty much just like college dorms.
This is half of my bedroom. We live in a flat with like 5 bedrooms and we all share a kitchen, living room, and 3 bathrooms. It's way old and some things don't work very well but it's kinda fun. As soon as we got settled in we all made a trip to the grocery store and it was amazing! The store was huge and we just had a blast trying to find lots of food to cook. A lot of stuff is surprisingly really different than in the U.S. but we managed to find a few things that were familiar. Walking back to our housing with all our groceries was murderous. I felt like my fingers were going to fall off! I just bought groceries together with all of my roomates so that ended up making it pretty inexpensive which was nice. On the way back we passed a movie rental place and Amanda set up an account with a fake address so we could rent harry potter 5! haha. Tomorrow we're going to see number 6 in the theaters. This evening we got a little orientation tour of the city and saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye (tallest ferris wheel in the world).
I love this...they have to write on the street which way to look before you're crossing cuz they drive on the other side of the street. London just has so many great signs that make you laugh

Then we got to come home and stay in for the rest of the night. We had a little party down in the commons room to watch the movie and everyone brought treats. It was way fun! The movie kept turning off though so we never did finish it. Meanwhile we did laundry and it was way SO great to have clean clothes! Somehow we ended up with a bunch of socks and underwear that don't belong to us and we still haven't decided what to do with them. awkward?!
